Happy Easter and a Blessed Resurrection Sunday!
By Helen Jesze, 7th April 2023
Last weekend we celebrated Palm Sunday when Jesus rode on a donkey into Jerusalem. Tomorrow is Good Friday, when we remember Jesus dying on the cross of Calvary for us.
“Carrying his own cross, he (Jesus) went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). Here they crucified him…”
John 19:17,18a NIV
Sunday will be Resurrection Sunday, when we celebrate that death could not hold Jesus, but he rose again!
‘On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them…the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” ‘
Luke 24:1-4, 5b,6a NIV
Not only was Jesus the firstborn from the dead after His Resurrection, but after taking the keys of death and hell from Satan, He ‘took captivity captive’ and brought a whole host of others out of their spiritual prison with Him, those who had believed and looked forward to His coming! They showed themselves alive in Jerusalem!!
For forty days Jesus showed by ‘many infallible, convincing proofs’ that He was indeed alive! How incredulous and life-changing was this truth as it took hold of the disciples and so many others who saw Him, as He showed them his pierced hands, feet and side, yet now with a glorified body, shining in light, bringing them peace, joy and a new mandate to go and tell the world of His death and rising in glory!
How appropriate that the Death and Resurrection of Jesus should be at this beautiful time of the year, when Spring buds, flowers and leaves are bursting forth on every side! It’s like a resurrection after the cold and barrenness of Winter!!
How wonderful to know that by accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we will never have to go to Hell, but we can live with Him through all Eternity!
Can you remember the day when you, personally, asked this Jesus to become your personal Saviour, and you invited Him into your life? If not, I would encourage you to do it today! He’s just waiting to come in, never to leave you again!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.”
John 2:16+17 KJV
The Lord is risen indeed!
