Come my Daughter – give me the key!

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds,”

Psalm 147:3 NIV

Holy Spirit, you show me there are doors within me,
Doors I have shut tight
Locking them and hiding the key
That I might not need to look behind them.
The memories, bitter griefs, hurtful situations
I have stored in there.

Yet time and again, in self-torture and self-pity
I have entered these rooms of my mind
And wandered among those negative things of the Past.
I have stopped here and there, examining, re-living,
Hearing the angry or despairing words
Amazingly, startlingly clear
Although spoken long ago.

As the hurt swelled and magnified,
Threatening to swamp me,
In panic I ran out, banging the doors.
I locked them tightly, hid the key
And made the decision to never look again.

But now you are knocking on those doors, Holy Spirit,
Gently, insistently, saying: Let me in!
I will cleanse and heal every wound
You still carry deep within your heart.
Every room of your life shall be filled
With the sunshine and presence,
The glory of the Lord!

This is the way to be truly whole.
Come, my daughter, give me the key!
