Don’t let the mistakes of Yesterday…
By Helen Jesze, 7th July 2018
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness,”
1 John 1:9 (NIV)
Have you ever been in the “if only I hadn’t done that” or “if only I had acted differently ” mode, where you can only see the mistakes and shortcomings of your Past? Regrets fill your heart and thoughts until they become a stranglehold from which there seems no escape. You feel restricted every way you turn and you are sure your Tomorrows will be just the same as your Past.
Some negative things in our lives have nothing to do with us, but may have been brought on by the actions of other people or the unfairness of Life. However, there are other circumstances we have brought knowingly or unknowingly on ourselves. We often want a different Tomorrow, but if we continue to believe, act, say exactly the same as we always have done, then we cannot expect to get a different result. Yet with God as our Helper, if we will take a good look at ourselves, admit where our attitude, speech or actions were wrong, we can ask His forgiveness and let Him change us from the inside out by His Holy Spirit. Let Him build a new structure, take out old negative roots and plant new positive ones; give us discernment to enable us to see deeper than the surface which will cause us to act and speak differently.
The ‘Today’ when God is working in us will be longer than a day of 24 hours, but it will surely lead into a new ‘Tomorrow’. Old ‘norms’ – the way we had always normally spoke or acted, will no longer be there. Their power will be broken over us, and new patterns of behaviour or speech will emerge which will bring excellent results to bless our lives and the lives of those around us So I want to encourage you today that with God there is always a new beginning! For you, too, if you get this message:
Don’t let the mistakes of your Past become the norm for Tomorrow, but let God change you Today!!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I bring all my mistakes and regrets to you. Wash me clean, break the power of negative thoughts and desires in my life, and change me by your Holy Spirit. Thank you for a new beginning! Amen!
