“GOD BLESS AMERICA, LAND THAT I LOVE…“

By Helen Jesze, 2016

“I exhort therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings, be made for all men: for kings and all that are in high place; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and gravity, This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;”

1 Timothy 2, 1-3 ASE

Known as America’s most successful song-writer, the Russian Jew, Irving Berlin wrote this song in 1938. Having been through one World War, and seeing clearly the signs of another one brewing, Berlin wanted to write a “peace song”, and thank God and America for having taken him into this country, giving him shelter, a new life and protection. It became one of America’s best-loved songs and has been sung at the Twin Towers and on many other historical and military occasions.

My first contact with America was when I was a small girl, watching my father bent over our radio, trying to tune in to Rev. Charles E. Fuller’s “The Old Fashioned Revival Hour” program, which we listened to every week. How excited we were when the theme song “Heavenly Sunshine” came ringing out with those wonderful octaves and arpeggios, as their pianist made the piano sing!

That was in 1951, and my father – who had been healed by God of an incurable condition – and I had a hunger to experience more of God’s power in our lives. There were other programs but this was our favourite, and was a source of inspiration and blessing. At a time when we in Europe were struggling to get permission to broadcast the Gospel on radio and later on TV, America was the place where, if you had the vision and the money, every door was open.

That was the time of the “Healing revivals” in America, started in the 1940’s, where a great wave of salvation and healing by God’s power was rolling over America. Scores of preachers proclaimed the Word in power from halls, churches and tent-auditoriums. We used to read about these in Rev. Gordon Lindsay’s “The Voice of Healing”, and other magazines my father sent for. They were a constant challenge, inspiration and faith- building, causing me to reach out to God in a new way, as I was growing up.

Throughout our life, my husband and I have had the privilege of either meeting, or working for, or together with many of God’s choice servants from USA. I think of Drs. T.L. and Daisy Osborn, Missionary Evangelists Tony and Marge Abram, Pastor John and Sis. Dodie Osteen, Demas, Rose and Richard Shekarian, Dr. Morris Cerullo, Hal and Mildred Herman, Judge Kermit Bradford, Rev. Chris Panos, Harold Hill, Dr. Lester Sumrall, Pat Robertson… and many others we could mention.

Last but not least, Bishop J. Alan Neal and his wife First Lady Wanda Neal who are our pastors at Agape Christian Faith Center in Ramstein, Germany. Numerous others have influenced us by their ministries and materials, although we have never met them, and we can only say “Thank you, God, for every one!”

Stars and Stripes flies against blue sky

On my last trip to USA I saw the “Plymouth Rock” on the shore where the ship “The Mayflower” carrying 100 “Pilgrim Fathers” from my own land of England landed. Fleeing from religious persecution – and many others from all over the world later did the same – a new life was offered in this country which stood for freedom and opportunity, and where not only the Statue of Liberty has opened its arms to its new sons and daughters.

Through the years America rose to become a Superpower in the world, and was considered by millions to be an example of freedom and Democracy. The extraordinary Biblical and Christian values upon which this country was founded, and the opportunities to express and broadcast Christianity and the Gospel, surely brought down the blessing of God upon this nation.

Yet increasingly, God’s standards, His Word and commands have been pushed aside, ridiculed, and Evil held up as the shining example we should follow. This is happening in every country and also in America. Anyone interested in politics, and every Christian who is watching “God’s Endtime clock” should be following closely this run-up to the next Election on Tuesday 8th November 2016, to choose America’s 45th President.

There is far more that is at stake here, than just a new ruler of a country; it will affect the whole of the world. That is why there is such bitter opposition and confusion on the campaign trail and in the spirit world.

The song continues:

“Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.”

Whatever we might personally think of the two presidential candidates is not important. God’s man or woman for the hour and for his purposes needs to be chosen. Many of you will already be praying, others might not be doing this, but I would urge you to pray for America at this time, that she would be guided through the night and that light from God would break forth in that nation in a new way, and that she would fulfil her prophetical mandate in God’s plan.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you who made nations, raising up and putting down whom you will, we pray that you will guide and stir your People to vote according to your Will.

Let there be a great turning back to you, an awakening out of spiritual slumber, a moving by your Spirit, and victory over all satanic opposition in the coming days, we pray. We call upon your mercy in this hour of need.

In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we pray!
Amen
