“And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon
tables, that he may run that readeth it.” Habbakuk 2:2 KJV
“Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct
message to others.” NLT
Have you ever imagined what our world would be like without ‘words’?
God attaches the utmost importance to communication and words! He inspired men
to write the Bible which brings us the message of eternal life. He has written our
names in the Book of Life and engraven them on the palms of his hands. The Ten
Commandments were written by his finger on tablets of stone. Many prophets and
men of God were told not only to tell the message but to write it in a book.
Whereas animals are able to communicate in a very basic way, only human-beings
those made in the image of God – are given this power and ability to communicate
with words and express ideas and feelings. What would Life be like without words?
There would be total lack of understanding between people if they could not speak.
There would never be a song written or heard, never a book or newspaper read. No
radio or TV, no church-service, no schools to train our children. Very little would be
studied, even practical objects, everyday things would be very limited as nobody
would know how to make them or obtain the materials.
Even as a child, I was fascinated by words. I read a great deal, and it was from my
mother that I inherited a love of good books. I was fascinated by the ability to
communicate, by the beauty and form of rhyme and poetry, and recognised that here
was a power to transform lives, lift the downcast and convey message and feeling.
Through my childhood and teenage years I wrote a few poems, stories and bits and
pieces just for the fun of it, sometimes sitting under Grandma’s apple-trees in the old
fashioned garden. Later, God began to give me more poems and songs, many of them
wrung out of me in times of loneliness or difficulty.
Several years ago, as I was typing the manuscript for a preacher-friend’s latest book,
the power of the Lord came over me and he spoke to my heart, “Now I have anointed
you to write!” Those seeds were planted in George’s and my heart, and later
germinated as our first book God’s Interpreter which was published in 1984. Winning
over Worry and Born to Win soon followed. We authored the books together and it
was very exciting to see that God had brought us into a new ministry, and that he
would use it for his glory!
I also wrote 2 teaching books for other ministries, and in 2021 I brought out a book
called Devotionals just 4 YOU!!! , with 154 of my online devotionals which I send
out weekly, with a few from George. Then in 2024, From the Father’s Heart to Yours– a book of my poems, Stories in Rhyme and Inspirationals, was published. At the
moment I am working on a Christian novel – Joy comes in the Morning – which will
be published later this year.
Just imagine, one book can reach many thousands or millions of people, go to places
you will never go! And what about YOU? Me? you say, I can’t write! I am sure many
Christians would have a writing ministry if they were encouraged to believe that God
would use them in this way.
You may not start by writing a book, but you could write letters or emails of
encouragement to a lonely missionary or a sick person, shut in day after day; jot
down and later develop ideas God gives you in your Quiet Time; write out your
testimony or an answer to prayer and send it to a Christian magazine or put it on the
Internet; take a writing-course; write a blog on the Internet; most importantly, open
yourself to the Holy Spirit and let him flow through you, take up pen and paper or sit
down at your computer and begin to write!! Reread, rewrite and polish, add and take
away from your script as is necessary. Most of writing – even for Christians – is some
inspiration but a great deal of perspiration! God deserves the best we can give.
When God released Corrie ten Boom, the famous Dutch lady who had been in
concentration camps during World War II for sheltering Jews, she travelled the world
with the message of Jesus and forgiveness. In Russia, she met a lady who was
paralysed, and in bed all the time. A typewriter was in front of her, and only able to
use one finger, this lady had typed out many Christian books. She had translated
Corrie’s books and given them away. Corrie said how ashamed she was, that this
courageous lady, although suffering so much herself, typed with one finger the
message of Jesus to help others. God wants to use every one of us if we are willing.
God was saying to a preacher that he should start to write books, but he always said
he did not have the time. Not long after, he had an accident and was laid up for many
months. He said, “Lord, I’ve got the message! Forgive me for my disobedience, I’ll
make a start!” Which he did, and his books became a great blessing.
Has God spoken to you, and you have not yet started or finished this writing project?
Let me encourage you today! You may have many treasures locked up inside you,
which God wants to be brought out and displayed for many people to profit from,
through the medium of writing! You may be the answer someone is looking for!
“… Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that
readeth it.” Habbakuk 2:2 KJV
You could be a potential writer!
