“Therefore let all the faithful pray to you while you may be found; surely the
rising of the mighty waters will not reach them. You are my hiding place; you
will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. I will
instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my
loving eye on you. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no
understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to
you.” Psalm 32:6-9 NIV
I had become a Christian while sitting on my settee after many weeks of thinking
about it, but I was not part of a church yet. I just decided to ask God if He was real
and give Him time. I had read Scripture for several hours each day and I would
speak to Him. In the process I had had a couple of experiences which would suggest that there was someone communicating with me and answering my questions. I had also lost the love of my life who could not and would not understand what was happening to me. She remains an atheist to this day.
I am an Industrial Electrician by trade, I was attached to a pipe spinning plant which makes Ductile Iron pipes by centrifugally spinning molten metal into a mould spinning at high speed. The machines are huge. We made pipes for water distribution services all over the world. (Your water may well be supplied by our pipe systems).
The whole of the water for Dubai is fed with our Pipes. As these huge machines are dealing with molten metal they require water-cooling systems to be working all of the time. No cooling water, no production. It was my job to keep all of the production machinery working electrically; there were always breakdown situations to deal with.
At the time when I became a Christian, I had just completed a 4 year apprenticeship and had been put in charge of this whole pipe spinning plant. We had a 100 tonne Blast Furnace working 24 hours a day, as well as a 100 tonne capacity 2 MW Induction Furnace for holding molten metal. This is apart from the cranes, scrap hoppers and Pipe Spinning Machines themselves. It was a daunting task because:
- I wasn’t familiar with all of the machines at all
- There was nobody to fall back on in a breakdown situation, I was the man.
Please stick with me, this is an amazing one! Work in those days was a daily exercise in managing fear; it was a high capacity fast-moving process with hundreds of machines and computer control systems, that could break down at any moment. The Production Managers would be applying pressure on me as soon as something wasn’t going right, they were on the radio straight away.
“Janson, how long are you gonna be?” “Come on we’ll be down on our quota!”
You get the idea. When you’re on your own it’s a lot of pressure.

A very old machine called a Filter Press had broken down on the day of this story. The Filter Press was the machine that cleaned all of the cooling water for the whole plant. We had two of these machines but the other one had been stripped down for maintenance. So we were running on one press. I went down to the Filter Press building and the operator was shouting and waving his arms around.
“Yes, I got it, your machine isn’t working, buddy!” I shouted to him.
When I opened the Electrical Panel I was presented with an absolute rats nest of messy cabling and unmanaged control equipment, something like this.

As I looked into the panel fear gripped me. There were no electrical schematic drawings for the machine as it was so old. The electricians on the other shifts knew these machines inside out due to the time and experience they had on the plant. They knew where to look, I was absolutely yellow and naive. The managers were breathing down my neck on the radio:
“Janson, we’re shut down and we’re losing £20k per hour!”
This one, oh boy, this one overwhelmed that very young and inexperienced me. I simply didn’t know what to do. I decided to cool off by going on a 10 minute walk to try and clear my head. On that walk, and I’ll never forget it, I said:
“Lord, please help me I don’t know what to do, I’m in a mess here.”
As I closed my eyes I saw a clear picture in my mind’s eye of one of the relays at the bottom left of the electrical panel, that had burnt and disconnected wires inside it. I didn’t really believe in what I had seen. It is a spectacular experience but at the moment it just felt very normal and uneventful. Then I went back to the machine, and looked at the relays at the bottom section of the panel and checked the relay I had seen in my mind’s eye. There it was! Exactly as I’d seen it on my brief walk, outside of the building!
IN MY MIND’S EYE!
It was not possible to see it by looking at the panel and without looking at detailed electrical schematics; it would have taken days to find it by tracing each cable. But God had shown me the problem!
I replaced the damaged equipment, reconnected the cables and closed the panel up, hit the start-button and away the machine went!
I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! Meanwhile I was the hero of the day! The whole
plant could start up again, I was the ‘bees-knees’ in the eyes of the management.
I knew who the real hero was though and it was nothing to do with me!
I was left pondering in my heart what had happened, in absolute shock. I was doing somersaults inside but also I was a little terrified.
There are 2 other scenarios at work where God showed me exactly where a problem was. As I developed my fault-finding skills and got to know the machines on the plant, He stopped helping me. I had to rely on my own skill. He was helping me out and training me to hear Him.
But now you see, He had got my attention. He had helped me out in the real
world. Are you feeling me? Now I had discovered there is definitely a God who is so close that He helps us even at work! These are the sort of evidences that happen in a Christian’s walk with God. It is
evidence-based, faith is not blind, and I had more instances to come. My faithful God never let me down!

Janson today!
Dear Friend, I hope this testimony has encouraged you, and helped you believe
that our Heavenly Father can help you too, in daily life!
