Birthday thoughts on “The Blood of Jesus”

By Helen Jesze, 15th March 2020

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect,”

1 Peter 1:18-19 (NIV)

This morning, George and I had a time of prayer and worship, then turned on a Christian TV service. A Gospel trio were singing that old hymn which some of you will remember:

“There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Immanuel’s veins, And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains. The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day, and there may I though vile as he, wash all my sins away.

Ever since by faith I saw the stream those flowing wounds supply, redeeming Love has been my theme and shall be till I die.”

The anointing of the Spirit just fell on us in the living-room as we listened, for the Spirit answers – is in agreement – to the Blood of Jesus. It is highly prized in Heaven. Many churches nowadays do not speak or preach much or at all about this divine Blood, but they are the poorer for it. None of our modern programs, good though many may be, can take the place of holding up to the Father the Blood of His Son and all that it means, in Redemption, sanctification, protection, as a weapon against satan and as our Passport into Heaven. It will not be St. Peter standing there looking through our list of good works, as some people seem to think or make fun of, but it will be Jesus or the Angel who will look to see if this Blood is upon us, and our name is in the Book.

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY and I thank God for the gift of Life, given to me by God and my parents. I thank Him that they knew how to pray and I was healed when just a baby in arms and the doctors did not know what was wrong.

I thank Him also for my Second Birthday, when I was “born again” at 9 years old, and I plunged into that fountain of the Blood of Jesus and was washed from every sin and stain. O, I wasn’t a great sinner, as sinning goes, I suppose, but the root of sin was there as it is in every life, and that root continues to grow in us and to produce increasing fruits of sin. This can be reversed by allowing Christ to take out this root and plant His eternal life in our spirits. On a Sunday evening, after I had heard a young Bible School student preach at my father’s church, I realised that although my parents were saved, I must make my personal decision to accept Jesus and and to follow Him. I made sure of my eternal salvation that night, trusting in that Fountain of Blood which was poured forth, because of my Saviour’s love.

I thank Him too for the husband, the three children, daughter-in-law and grandchildren He gave me, other relatives, plus so many friends – private or in ministry – who have enriched my life, making it precious with memories. Psalm 91 speaks of God “satisfying us with long life”, and I’ve put my claim in for that, too!

Unlike any other love which we might enjoy, win, or experience, our Heavenly Father’s and Lord Jesus’ LOVE surpasses them all. Where our love comes to an end, His LOVE only starts, even our earthly love is under-girded by His great LOVE. He does not just have love, but He is LOVE ITSELF.

Soon we will be celebrating Easter or Passover, but the Blood of Jesus can be spoken about any time of the year, and it became GREAT to me again today. So I want to pass that along to you.

There may be someone reading this who has not yet experienced the significance of this Blood, who has never been to that “fountain” to be washed, and become a Child of God. It happened over 2000 years ago, but the sacrifice of the Son of God was eternal, with all its meaning a spiritual one for this life and the next, and this divine Blood will never lose its power! I urge you to come to Him today and know this delivering, healing power for yourself – Eternal Love waits for you with open arms!
