Made in the Image of God!

“Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them,”

Psalm 129:16

“Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them,”

Psalm 139:16 KJV

I had been asked to preach at a ladies’ conference in a large city in England. I was met by a lady whom I will call Jenny, who was to look after me and later take me to the hotel. As we were talking and drinking tea, the phone often rang. Sometimes she would answer it, other times, she directed the call through to another number. I said, “You have a lot of phone calls, Jenny. You must have lots of friends!” “Oh,” Jenny replied, “that’s our pregnancy line!”

Jenny told me how she had been raped and become pregnant at the age of fifteen; she went for an abortion, but it was not successful. She gave birth to a daughter, and kept the baby. Now Jenny’s mind was completely changed, and she began to campaign for Life, joining a group of antiabortionists. They demonstrated and even lay down in the road holding up the traffic, until the police came to drag them away, just so they would be noticed and their message heard.

Later she became a Christian and stopped these activities. She was asked to go round the schools telling of her experience, and speaking about sexual health and the importance of human life. The question came: “ What about the girls who become pregnant and have no practical help to carry the baby to term and then look after it?” After a discussion with her pastor, a 24 hour Pregnancy Help Line was set up, where women and girls could ring up or visit the office for a talk with a Christian counsellor. Right from the start, they had many phone calls. Instead of being aborted, many babies were born as a result of this, baby-clothes and other helpful articles were donated. Some mothers became born-again Christians and their lives were changed.

Just last night I saw on Christian TV an interview with Rev. Bobby Conner. When his mother became pregnant with him, she already had one crippled son, a daughter and a husband who was a raving maniac as the result of a promiscuous lifestyle and Venereal Disease. In desperation she bent a wire coat-hanger and tried to get rid of the baby, but the child lived. Today he is a respected servant of God, a pastor with a prophetic mantle and a testimony to tell that God protected him and knows us even before we were born.

I have chosen to briefly write about this subject as a few days ago, New York State in USA passed a law which allows babies to be aborted right up until the time of birth. Here a quote from BCN (Breaking Christian News) about the President:

‘In his second State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress and the nation Tuesday night… he turned to the biggest hot-button topic in recent weeks: the late-term abortion of viable babies. President Trump forcefully blasted NY lawmakers and Virginia’s governor for supporting it, saying he will ask Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb.

“Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life. And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth: all children—born and unborn—are made in the holy image of God,” he said. ‘ Well-said, Mr. President!

We may think that is in USA and doesn’t concern us, but we would be wrong. In these, the Last Days, where everything is accelerating in the spirit world, resulting in an acceleration in the physical world, we should have our Bible in one hand and the newspaper or the internet in the other! We need God to put his “eye-salve” on our spiritual eyes, that we might discern what is on satan’s agenda. It could easily come to our country too, and many other evils.

One of the arguments that is used says that a baby is not a baby until it is born, so there is no problem aborting it. If that was the case, how do we explain what happened when Mary, the mother of Jesus went to visit her cousin, Elisabeth? When Elisabeth heard the sound of Mary’s voice, the baby she was carrying (later to be John the Baptist) leapt for joy, and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Mary had conceived Jesus by the Holy Spirit only a few days or weeks before, and if that life in her womb was only a “clump of cells”, there would not have been a reaction in Elisabeth like that. No, baby John in Elisabeth recognised the Spirit of the Child, Jesus, in Mary!

You may be a woman who has had an abortion. This may have happened before you became a Christian, maybe even afterwards. You may be one of the many women who regret this years later. God is reaching out to you with mercy and compassion and can wipe away every stain. You may be a man who has urged or forced a woman to have an abortion. You also need to repent, and God will forgive this sin too.

Too often, self-righteous Christians point the finger at others but are not always willing to help. We have all done it at some time. But could it be that the Lord is laying on your heart to help women in need? Seek his face in prayer, let him guide you what steps to take and what you should do. He will show you!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for making us in your image. Help us never to forget that. Thank you that the blood of your Son, Jesus, is ready to cleanse every sin and wrong-doing. We pray that healing would come to every hurting, regret-filled heart, and peace to troubled minds.

Or if there is a “Jenny” reading this, wondering what to do in her pregnancy, send someone to help her at this time of desperation and decision, that she might choose Life and not Death for her little one. We ask this in the Name of Jesus, Amen.
