My God shall supply
By Helen Jesze, 30th October 2020
God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Phillipians 4:19
I tossed and turned. The bed beside me was empty. My husband, George, was away for several weeks, preaching. Tears trickled down my cheeks into my hair and I cried into the darkness, “Lord, you said you would supply all our need, but it doesn’t look like it! It seems as though your supply has dried up, or as though we don’t know how to receive from you! Why must it always be so hard?!”
I had almost no money left and our daughter was to have her fifth birthday that week. She wanted a toy shop which cost 120.- German Marks. That was impossible! As young missionaries “living by faith” in Germany, we had experienced many financial miracles, but also many lean times.
The next day I went to a shop where it was possible to buy and sell secondhand goods and asked if they had any toys for sale, but I mentioned nothing about a shop. The lady took me out to the garage and showed me a beautifully made, wooden toy shop, complete with tiny bottles, shopping trolleys, scales, cash register, jars and baskets.
There was wooden fruit and other wares. The shop could be built up and was so large, that a small assistant could go through the swing door and stand behind the counter. Everything was as good as new, but I was sure it would cost too much…!
The shop-lady had sold some clothes I had left with her. With the proceeds and only DM 2.- more, I was able to buy the toy shop! God had heard the prayers of a little girl and mine too! Once again, he had shown himself to be the God who supplies all of our need!
Then there was the Christmas dinner. One year we had no extra money to buy special meat and George prayed that just as God had provided meat for all the Israelites by sending them quails, that surely he could send some meat for the Jesze family.
A few days before Christmas Eve, which is when the German people have their main Christmas celebration, a neighbour rang the doorbell.
“I was wondering if you could use these,” he said, thrusting a bag at me. Inside were several frozen rabbits. He smiled apologetically, “You see, these used to be pets and now our children won’t eat them!”
Of course, we could use them! God had sent us our “quails”! Roasted and with plenty of vegetables, roast potatoes and gravy, they tasted delicious!
Once more, God had put food on our table! He is truly a God who cares!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that you care for your children. Forgive us when we doubt you and your promises. You care for the big needs and even for what some would consider to be only small, or insignificant needs.
We pray for any of the friends reading this today who are maybe in great need, and do not know which way to turn. We speak provision, comfort, help, wisdom, assurance to them.
Thank you for sending all that they need. Let your peace flood their hearts right now, and a certainty that you are undertaking at this very moment!
We praise and give you the glory in the Name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!
