Some people never seem motivated to participate, but are just content to watch while others do the work. They are called, “Speck Taters”.

Some people never do anything to help, but are gifted at finding fault with the way others do the work. They are called, “Comment Taters”.

Some people are very bossy and like to tell others what to do, but don’t want to soil their own hands. They are called, “Dic Taters”.

Some people are always looking to cause problems by asking others to agree with them. It is too hot or too cold, too sour or too sweet. They are called, “Agie Taters”.

There are those who say they will help, but somehow just never get around to actually doing the promised help. They are called, “Hezzie Taters”.

Some people can put up a front and pretend to be someone they are not. They are called, “Emma Taters”.

Then there are those who love others and do what they say they will. They are always prepared to stop whatever they are doing and lend a helping hand. They bring real sunshine into the lives of others. They are called, “Sweet Taters”.

“…for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe, as you hold out the word of life…”

Phil. 2:13-16a NIV

“We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labour prompted by love and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Thess. 1:2+3 NIV

Lord Jesus, help us not to just sit on the side lines – being a Spectator – but to be on the track and run our race in your power and strength.

Help us not to always find fault with others’ work, being a Commentator, but help us to look for the good.

Help us not to be like the Pharisees, Dictators who only want to rule and tell other people what to do, but don’t do it ourselves.

Help us to be grateful and spread a good atmosphere around, not to be like the Agitators who seek to cause problems by finding fault with everything.

May we not be those who say I’ll help you tomorrow or perhaps next week, but today’s no good, the Hesitater who makes excuses, or like the Imitators who live a life of pretence.

Let us be one of the Sweet Potatoes (Taters) who love others and do what they say they will, always prepared to stop whatever they are doing and lend a helping hand, bringing real sunshine into the lives of others!

Dear Friend, WHICH TATER ARE YOU?!!
