The Cat that brought Salvation!

By Helen Jesze, 2nd July 2021

“…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation,”

2 Corinthians 6:2b KJV

I recently heard a humorous testimony of how a man came to faith in Christ. He had often heard he should get saved, but continually put it off. One night he sat down on his couch and turned on the TV, to watch his favourite programme. The cat jumped up onto his lap, and as it did so, it pressed the remote control and the channel changed to a well-known Gospel programme. The cat perked up its head as if it was listening to the music.

The man changed the channel back to his programme, but the cat pressed the remote again. This time, too, the same Gospel channel came on, and the cat seemed to be listening. This happened four times! After the fourth time, the cat looked up into his face, as if to say: What are you doing? I want to hear this one!

The man stared at the cat and suddenly, the sermon which was being preached grabbed him, and he listened intently. That was the day of salvation for him, for he gave his life to Jesus Christ that very night! Coincidence? Hardly! How strange that the same Gospel programme came on every time! I believe God was guiding that cat’s paw!

In the Bible we often read how God used animals and birds. He commanded the animals to come to Noah to go into the ark, he prepared a great fish to save Jonah, he caused the prophet Balaam’s ass to speak, he commanded the ravens to feed Elijah, he made the worm eat Jonah’s gourd, he filled Peter’s nets with fish, Jesus rode on an unbroken donkey into Jerusalem, to name a few. God can use anything he wants – even a cat – to bring about his purposes in the earth!

What about YOU today? Are you one of those who are always putting off that final surrender to Jesus? I want to encourage you, to urge you, to put it off no longer, but let Salvation come to your house and heart, this very day!
