The “Nudging” of the Spirit!
By Helen Jesze, 25th February 2018
“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him,”
James 1, 5 World English Bible
I often pray and thank God for wisdom in all the affairs of Life, in big and small things, for sometimes, big and important circumstances hinge on those seemingly small things. God’s Word tells us that Jesus is “made unto us wisdom…” so we know this is a prayer He wants to answer and we can believe Him to guide us by His Spirit. Just this last Thursday I experienced this once again.
It had been arranged that we should have building work done in our house, to help with George’s mobility needs; this should last up to three weeks. We were told it would begin at the end of February or beginning of March, but someone would visit and tell us what needed to be done in preparation. Although we had heard nothing and there were still several days before this time slot, I had a strong “nudge” from the Holy spirit to ring the Council office. As always, He was right on time, for someone had forgotten to let us know that the building will be starting already on Monday 26th February! There were phone calls back and forth to builders and Social workers and a commode had to be ordered from the Red Cross as we will have no toilet for part of the time.
Cupboards needed to be emptied, some furniture moved and taken into the garage, books and several things packed away, but because of this divine “nudge”, we had some time to do this. If I had not listened to that inner voice, the building team would have arrived early Monday and no preparations done! But even in small things, God is faithful. He sees the end from the beginning, we see only today and the past! Now, with the help of some kind friends, all is ready! There are many situations we face which are much more important, sometimes even a matter of Life or Death.
Let me encourage you today to reach out for God’s wisdom, and watch out for those heavenly “nudges” in the coming week – “He is faithful who has promised”!
Prayer: Thank you, Heavenly Father, for wisdom in all the af airs of Life. Help me to learn in increasing measure how to be guided by your Holy Spirit within me, rather than to trust to my own thinking and logical reasoning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
