The Power of the Name!!
By Helen Jesze, 15th october 2021
During the night, and when I woke in the morning, those wonderful words uplifting the Name of JESUS were singing in my spirit. When I turned on a Christian TV program, what song were they singing…? You’ve guessed it! The Lord must be turning my attention again to the truth of the power in this matchless Name!
It truly does break every stronghold and burns up the dross in our lives like a fire; its light shines through the darkness and renders the enemy powerless; it’s the Name to proclaim from the mountains, over our streets, our family – the Holy Name of Jesus Christ our Saviour!
Satan hates the Name of Jesus. There are people who are so bound with the powers of darkness that they can say the word God, but they can’t speak the word Jesus. Satan knows that the One who bears that Name broke his power, took the keys of Death and Hell from him, stripping his authority and now all power in Heaven and in Earth is given to this mighty Victor!
I am sure every one of us who have been walking with Jesus for a while have found out how effective this Name is! It’s the first Name we call out when in trouble or danger. It was “Jesus” my late husband, George, shouted when he was driving a friend’s mini-bus, as it skidded on the wet Autobahn, vaulted the barrier in the middle like a horse, then went over the road of oncoming traffic, and down a bank, stopping as a small tree broke its fall. The policeman who came scratched his head in amazement and said George must have had somebody ‘up there’ looking out for him. He had just come from a similar accident and the car-occupants were terribly injured!
It was “Jesus” I shouted when in November 2016 George fell backwards down 8 steps, breaking several bones. Yet how much worse it could have been if he had fallen from the top of the stairs, perhaps been killed or paralysed, but God was gracious.
It was “Jesus” a young friend shouted as he and his wife were driving to a meeting where he was to speak, when he saw a car approaching from the opposite direction, coming directly for them! In the other lane there was a big truck with huge wheels; shouting this Name he drove directly between the oncoming car and the truck! The hubs were ripped off all the wheels, the side of their car was squashed in, just where their little toddler would usually be sitting, but they had decided to leave him home that day! The Name had shown its power again and protected them in a seemingly impossible situation!
In a book about the life of Smith Wigglesworth – The Apostle of Faith, as he was called – there is an account of six people going to pray for a sick man, who lay in his bed, utterly helpless. He had read a tract about healing and people praying for the sick, and hoped his friends could pray the prayer of faith for him. He was anointed according to James 5:14, but as there was no immediate manifestation of healing, he wept bitterly. The six friends walked out of the room, somewhat crestfallen to see the man lying there, his condition unchanged.
When they were outside, one of them said, “There is one thing we could have done. Let’s all go back and try it.” So they went back into the house and one man said, “Let us whisper the name of Jesus.” At first nothing seemed to happen. But as they continued to whisper, “Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!” the power of the Holy Spirit began to fall and they saw that God was beginning to work. Joyfully they whispered the Name louder and louder. As they did so the man got up and dressed himself. Those six people had taken their eyes off the sick man, just focusing on the Lord Jesus and their faith grasped the power that there is in his Name!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the power and authority in the Name of Jesus! Give us a fresh revelation today of what that Name can do for us and for others in need. Whether we cry it in desperation or can only whisper it in times of weakness and distress, thank you for answering and bringing us the victory! We uplift that Name right now – Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God! Amen.
