Worry or the Word?
By Helen Jesze, 2022
Every Christian must sooner or later make the choice of letting his life and thinking be dominated by Worry or the Word of God. Let us compare the results of worrying or believing God’s Word.
Worry does not bring a solution to our problems. Trust in God’s Word points the way out.
Meditating on our problems beings us deeper into failure. Meditating in God’s Word brings obedience, prosperity and good success
(Joshua 1:8).
Worry has killed thousands, perhaps millions of people. God’s Word brings quickening and healing for spirit, soul and body
(Ps. 119:50 and Proverbs 4:20-22).
Worry has never made anyone glad. God’s Word fills us with joy
(Jeremiah 15:16).
Worry causes us to believe fear and the lies of the devil. God’s Word produces faith and helps us to believe God
(Romans 10:17).
Worry crushes the lonely and drives them to despair. God’s Word and the Living Word – Jesus – has been sent to heal the brokenhearted and set the captives free
(Luke 4:16-21).
Worry will cause our mind to be clouded with confusion, so we cannot see our way clearly. God’s Word will shine upon our path and we shall not stumble
(Ps.119:105).
Worry causes us to be taken up with ourselves and the greatness of our problems. God’s Word will turn our eyes to the One who is far greater and who is worthy of our worship
(Psalm 18:1-3 and 28-30).
Worry will shorten our life. Long life is promised to those who trust and obey their God and his Word
(Psalm 91).
Worry is an intruder trying to take up residence in our lives. God’s Word should be ruling in our hearts, leaving us no room for this unwelcome guest
(Philippians 4:6+7 and Colossians 3:16).
Worry makes us concentrate on our problem. God’s Word points us to the solution.
(Psalm 119:130).
Worry is a negative force. God’s Word is a positive power
(Heb.1:3 and John 6:63).
Worry magnifies what the devil is doing. God’s Word magnifies how God is working
(Isaiah 55:8-11).
Worry makes us become introverted. God’s Word causes us to look up to him and out to the needs of others
(2 Thessalonians 2:15-17).
Worry is a dead-end street. Obedience to God’s Word brings us into a glorious future
(Deuteronomy 28:1-14).
Worry hinders our usefulness for God. His Word makes us strong and effective
(Psalm 1:2-3 and 2 Timothy 3: 16 +17).
Worry is a weapon Satan uses against us. God’s Word, the Sword of the Spirit will fight for us
(Hebrews 4:12 and Ephesians 6:17).
Worry leaves us defenceless against the devil’s attacks. The Word of God will give us discernment and protection
(Proverbs 7:1-5, 24-27).
Worry and fear defile our thoughts, filling us with condemnation. God’s Word purifies us
(Psalm 119:11 and John 15:3).
Worry is negative seed, which if sown in the heart eventually destroys. God’s Word is the positive seed, which if sown in good ground, brings forth life and victory
(Psalm 126:6 and Matthew 13:2-23).
Worry weighs us down with unhappiness and depression. Believing God’s Word clothes us with a garment of praise
(Isaiah 61:3).
Worry does not show us a true picture of the situation. God’s Word acts as a mirror wherein we see things clearly
(James 1:22-25).
Worry is temporary. God’s Word will stand for ever
(Is.40:8 and Matthew 24:35).
Worry brings weakness and inability. The Word of God speaks divine authority and power into our situation
(Luke 4:36 and Matthew 8:8).
Worry brings unrest and stress. God’s Word brings peace
(Psalm 119:165).
Worry will bring us to despair. God’s Word offers us a new hope
(Ps.119:49,50,147).
Millions of Christians throughout the centuries have proved that using and obeying God’s Word instead of allowing worry to dominate their thinking, has completely changed their situation. The late Pastor Yonggi Cho told of one of his church members, who had come for prayer as she had cancer. (He was the pastor of the largest church in the world in Seoul, South Korea; at the time we visited, there were 760,000 members!
He told her to go home and write 10,000 times “By his stripes I am healed” and read it aloud. The lady went home and took a large pad of paper. She began to write Nr. 1 By his stripes I am healed. Then she read it aloud. Number 2… Hour after hour she sat there writing and speaking, but she knew it was a matter of life or death. At the end of a week she was finished and ran to Pastor Cho with her many sheets of paper, “I’m finished, Pastor! 10,000 times By his stripes I am healed!”.
“How’s your cancer doing?” he asked. “Oh, I forgot all about it!” she cried. “Why – I must be healed!” and she shouted for joy. The doctor confirmed that she was cancer- free.
What brought about her healing? Her obedience? Her writing? Mind over matter? God healed her because she was more taken up with the Word of God than with her problem. She concentrated on the solution and not on her need. The Word took root in her heart as never before. Faith was growing and taking over where worry and fear had previously held her in its grip.
God has many ways to heal us. We are not giving this example as a patent recipe for the healing of cancer, but are reporting on this case, which illustrates how God’s Word can triumph and bring victory in our lives, over worry and fear.
