You’re not alone!

When we invited Jesus Christ into our heart we entered a new life. Because Jesus now lives in us, from that point on, we are now no more alone. Even so, the problems and pressures of everyday life often give us a feeling of loneliness, as if there is no-one there to help us.
Years ago we had a young lady from Australia staying with us. She had never seen snow or a German Winter, and this was now Winter-time. On days when the sky was grey, she would say, „Oh, it’s suicide weather today!“ Of course, she would never have really committed suicide because of the weather, and we who live in Europe, although we are used to the changing seasons, do know it does have an effect on how we feel.
Some days we see an overcast sky, but in spite of this, we know that the sun is behind the clouds, for it is always there, and another day it will bring us joy again, so let’s cheer up! In the same way, this knowledge, this revelation that Jesus is with us – even inside of us — remains firmly in our hearts. When we have problems Satan whispers to us that God has forgotten us and that we have to get the victory on our own. We feel isolated, as though we are on a desert island, but through our faith in God we can overcome this lie of the enemy.
There were people in the Bible who also felt alone, for instance, David, when he fought against Goliath. His brothers, the king and Goliath all scorned him. But faith gave him the certainty that God would help him — „for the battle is the Lord’s!“ 1 Samuel 17, 47.
Then there was Daniel in the lions’ den. He remained undaunted and obedient to God. His trust was rewarded:
„My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me…!“
Daniel 6, 22.
One of the greatest miracles in the Old Testament happened to the three young Hebrew men. Because of their courageous testimony and refusal to worship the golden image which the king had set up, they were thrown into the fiery furnace. The fire had been made seven times hotter and the men who threw them in were killed because of the fierce heat. But when the king looked into the furnace, he saw that they were no longer alone – there was another Man in there, and the fourth Man looked „like a son of the gods“ („like the Son of God“, another translation says).
The Apocrypha is not part of the Holy Canon of Scripture, but is considered well worth reading and valuable enough to be put into some editions of the Bible. This is what it says about this incident;
„The song of the three men in the furnace of fire – So the three men started to sing, praising and extolling God in the furnace and said: Praise be unto you, Lord, God of our fathers…But the angel of the Lord entered into the fire with Azariah (his original name) and those who were with him, and pushed the heat of the fire out of the furnace and made it like a cool dew in the furnace, so that the fire did not touch them at all, or pain or damage them.“
We could name many examples from the Bible where people felt extremely alone and God helped them, but we also, today, can have experiences like this. In this time when there are so many things which would like to destroy us, it is good to know, we are not alone! We have access to Jesus, his wisdom, power and help.
Many a prognosis has been made about the future. These have not always turned out as they were forecast. But God and his Word are always right! For the born-again Christian the Word of God is always more reliable than human ideas and plans. With Jesus, we can look forward to the future with joy, for he who is in us, is the Greater One. This Jesus is greater than all our worries, all sicknesses, yes, even than Satan himself.
Let us trust Him with our whole heart and have not just a mental faith.
Do not make your Jesus so small that he can no longer help you!
Don’t forget – YOU’RE NOT ALONE!!
