Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the
goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14 NIV
On the last Sunday of 2025, the 28th December, the Lord gave me the following Prophetic Word in my home church in England. It was for all of us who were in the meeting at that time, but it is also important for all the Body of Christ, so I would like to share it with you now.
“For even as you are standing at the threshold of a new year and the other, the 25th is
behind you and the 26th is before you, for even at this time, the Lord would say this
Church stands at the threshold, not just of another year, but at new things in me, says
the Lord. For I do have a purpose, I have a future, I have a purpose all the way along,
but before you reach the destination, there are destinations on the way that I would
take you to.
And the Lord would say, reach out anew for my Spirit. There are some of you who are
reaching out, and there are some who have reached out a little, and there are some who have not given much time at all or even much thought about my Holy Spirit. He has become almost like the step-child that was hid in a corner, perhaps not knowingly, but it has been so. And the Lord would say to you in great love and mercy, even as His
arms are open wide in a new way today for every one of you, for me as well.
And He would say the threshold, come over the threshold of my Spirit. Don’t just
stand on the threshold but enter the house, enter the building. In the house there are
many rooms, there are big rooms and there are small ones. There are ones with doors
wide open, there are ones with doors that are closed, but as in faith you give place to
my Spirit and you give room for Him to move, one door after another would open, in
your life and in the life of this Church.
And so the Lord would say again to you today, reach out, cross the threshold, and as
you come into the new year, over the threshold of 2026, you will see God has gone
before you. You do not have to say, O Lord, come with us, for He is even in you and He
is with you in a collective anointing, and He is with you because He has said, I will
never leave you nor forsake you, and as you come out of tribulation and you enter a
new purpose. You will come out and enter as you give room to my Holy Spirit. Amen!”
Let’s unpack this a little. A threshold leads from some place to another place, it can never stand on its own. We are now in the second month of the year, but it was not long ago that we crossed that year threshold, and each one of us in our personal lives, have thresholds which we approach and go over and enter into. Here the Lord was telling us that we, as a church, were at a threshold which would lead into new experiences with the Holy Spirit, and encouraging us, challenging us to reach out in a new way for this. There were destinations he was taking us to, and one of the conditions for us, was to reach out for a greater infilling with the Holy Spirit.
He was also saying that some in the congregation were already reaching out and were
hungry for the moving of the Spirit, others had reached out a little, but yet others did not think much about this at all. The question might come: This is a Pentecostal church, how can it be that there are people there who give little place to, or think much about the Spirit of God? The fact is that the leadership of that church may be very open to the Holy Spirit, but it does not necessarily mean that each individual there is the same.
During the years George and I ministered in many types of churches, among the
Pentecostal and Charismatic churches. Yet we have seen this time and time again, that
having the word Pentecostal on the board outside, or belonging to a Pentecostal
denomination does not mean that there is much working of the Spirit there. Years ago we were ministering in a Pentecostal church in Switzerland one evening. This was a branch work and we were staying with the pastor and his wife from the main church. They had not been to the meeting the night before.
During breakfast the next morning, one of the deacons rang up and said what a wonderful meeting it had been the night before. The pastor asked, “What did George preach on?”
“Oh, he didn’t get to preaching! The Holy Spirit was working so!” The pastor was very
angry. He put the phone down and started to tell George off. We tried to explain what had happened. The Holy Spirit had fallen on the meeting and people were crying out to God.
Some were repenting of sin, others were getting reconciled with each other. We were so busy praying with and helping the people, the evening was over, and there had been no time to preach. Unfortunately, the pastor and his wife did not accept this. They had never experienced this type of the moving of the Spirit themselves.
By relating this, I am not saying that the preaching of the Word is not important. Of course, it is, but Jesus is the Head of His Church, and we should allow Him to work and move as He wishes. The main thing was, in that meeting He had moved in people’s lives and changed situations, and glorified the Name of the Father.
We were once in a meeting and I saw in the spirit people sitting in church and some had spiritual ‘umbrellas’ up. The rain of the Spirit was falling but it slid off the ‘umbrellas’ and did not touch those people at all. What could those ‘umbrellas’ be? Unbelief, lack of correct Biblical teaching, disobedience, fear, anger, unforgiveness, apathy, sin and perhaps other things.
In this Prophetic Word, the Lord was telling us to cross the threshold into the ‘building’ or ‘house’ of the Spirit, saying that it contained many rooms, large and small. Some had the doors firmly closed, some had the doors were wide open and it continued “as in faith you give place to my Spirit and you give room for Him to move, one door after another would open, in your life and in the life of this Church.”
One of the above verses describes how Paul is putting the past behind him and is focused on the new things and the goal which God has for him. There may have been disappointments, dark moments in 2025 which have burdened you and you look with trepidation to the new year, and wonder what it will bring. If you have regrets, Jesus will forgive and wash you clean and help you to put it behind you, giving you help and wisdom for the future.
