In the accompanying letter to last week’s Devotional, I wrote briefly about the Feast
of Purim and Queen Esther. Today I want to unpack this a little more, as from sunset
on 2nd March until sunset on 3rd March, this week, the Jews celebrated this special
Feast. Made very difficult due to the war started last Saturday, nevertheless, many of
them still celebrated and made it a day of Joy.

Let’s look here at similarities and differences in our Christian lives and this story of
Esther:
Esther had been taken captive by the Persian army.
We were captives of Satan, but our King Jesus set us free and made us His
Children! In Israel, this young lady was called Hadassah. In Persia, she was called Esther.
One day, God will give us a new name. We read about this in Revelation 3:12.
King Ahasuerus ruled over Persia which was modern-day Iran and a huge empire. He
was looking for a new bride, after Queen Vashti had offended him.

Our King Jesus rules the world and is also looking for a Bride – this is His
worldwide Church. The king chose his bride.
We have to personally, choose Jesus as our King and Heavenly Bridegroom.
Each young lady had to go through a one year cleansing and purifying process with
special oils, myrrh and herbs, before going to the king.
Our King says: Come just as you are with all your sin and shame. He cleanses us
with His blood and the washing of the water of His Word.
Each girl spent only one night with the king, then she was put into his harem. She
was only brought to him again if he especially asked for her.
Our King takes us to live with Him and walks with us every day. His love and
delight in us is never ending and we will spend all Eternity with Him!
Only young ladies who were virgins could take part in the king’s beauty-pageant.
Our King knows we had many spiritual lovers and idols, but He calls us to give
them up and accept only His love.

Esther’s uncle, Mordecai, had brought her up as she was an orphan. He told her to
keep her Jewish ancestry a secret. After becoming queen, she was not lifted up in
pride, but continued to obey his instructions.
Sometimes we are proud and do not obey God’s Word or instructions, and this
thwarts God’s plan for our lives. Esther and her people had an enemy, Haman, who wanted to commit genocide against the Jews.

We, as Christians, have an enemy, Satan. Nowdays, Israel also has many enemies
who want to annihilate them. One great example is the country of Iran (modern
day Persia) whose evil regime provides billions of dollars and weapons to the
terrorists, for this purpose.

A great crisis came as Esther hears of Haman’s plans.
Mordecai says to Esther the verse at the beginning of this devotional, that she
was brought to the kingdom – this position – to save her nation and the Jews
throughout all the king’s empire: “ … for such a time as this”!
Esther fasted and prayed. We need to do this too, as the Holy Spirit leads us.
All the previous happenings were leading up to this climax. Esther was put into
this position to save her nation. In our lives too, God plans and works behind the
scenes and prepares us “for such a time as this”, to fulfil His general plans, but
also to fulfil the individual plans He has for us.

My dear devotionalsjust4u!! Friends, I want to encourage you and challenge you
today that God has a purpose for us too, and has called you and me for “such a
time as this”. Have you sought Him in prayer to find out what this purpose is? If
not, do it today, and look in my poem here, to be inspired and assured that you
were born for such a time!

For such a Time!
Born for such a time, for such a time as this, born for this generation.
Born for this time in the Father’s plan to meet the needs of the nations.
Prepared in secret, refined in the fire, strong to face temptation
Grounded in the Word, walking in the light, humble, no condemnation.
Born for such an hour, for such an hour as this, the hour of this
generation.
Born for this hour in the Father’s plan to meet the needs of the nations.
People of vision inspired by God, not moved by earthly sensation.
Consumed by love, our finger on the pulse of a dying, deceived generation.
Born for such a task, for such a task as this, born for this generation.
Born for this task in the Father’s plan to meet the needs of the nations.
Our ears and spirits tuned ready to hear his divine instruction.
Those strategies he shows for saving the lost from eternal destruction.
Born to give birth, even spiritual birth, born for this generation
Born to bring forth in the Father’s plan to meet the needs of the nations.
A tool that’s fashioned for a purpose sure, an arrow shot from his bow
Ablaze with the fire of the Holy Spirit, our lips and hearts aglow!
Born for such a time, for such a time as this, born for this generation.
Born for this time in the Father’s plan to meet the needs of the nations!
